Poem of Praise
Heaven alone cannot contain
The splendor of Your glory.
It spills across the earth’s terrain
And sings of Your love’s story.
My heart is drawn to seek Your face,
Dwell safely in Your shadow.
My soul set free by wondrous grace—
Blessed gift of God—Your favor.
Hear now the call of angels’ song
Give praise, honor, and glory
To Him who sits upon the throne
Sing “Holy, holy, holy!”
The Call
“…Lord, if it is you, command me to come to You on the water. And He said, ‘Come’….” (Mathew 14:28b-29a NASB)
Do you ever wish life was more exciting, more meaningful? I had a friend who lived that way. She used to say she was living life on the edge with the Lord. And I was in awe of her—she lived with purpose, which gave her confidence I had never experienced before.
And it all came from answering God’s call.
We read of Isaiah, immersed in the presence of the Lord, who asked, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Isaiah replied, “Here am I, send me!” (Isaiah 6:8 NASB) God used Isaiah to prophesy the coming Messiah hundreds of years before Christ’s arrival.
In Luke 1, we find God’s favor resting on a teenage girl, Mary, who was to become the mother of Jesus. In verse 38 Mary answers God’s call – “May it be done to me according to your words.”
One night the disciples were miserably stuck at sea when Jesus appeared, walking on the water (Matthew 14:24-29). Peter called out, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” Jesus replied.
That night, Peter’s life was changed forever. He climbed out of the boat of realistic possibilities and walked in faith upon the water. He chose to live life on the edge. That choice allowed God to accomplish much through Peter as he became an ardent pillar of the early church.
Just as He did with Peter, the Lord beckons us to come. Come, let Him do the impossible in us. Come, let Him give our lives incredible purpose. And let us walk confidently, knowing our Savior will grab hold of us when we totter on that exhilarating edge.
In The Shadows of Night
In the shadows of the night
Fear creeps into the room—looming large;
Anxiety follows with his mocking sneer.
They recite their ominous threats,
Hoping I do not see past their sinister escapes.
For some time, I waiver—does my heart faint at their noise?
Do I give in to their menacing lies?
And then You come. My Rescue!
Your steady voice whispers,
“I AM here. With you. You are mine.”
My heart remembers Your goodness.
The unexpected blessings.
Your faithfulness in past storms.
Then the Hand that rules the nations, commands the seas,
Sweeps away the shadows.
My cowering heart becomes resilient.
In the Strength of Your Presence.
I laugh in the darkness. Your Joy overflows my soul.
And suddenly, it is morning.
“When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Your comfort delights my soul.” Psalm 94:19 (NASB)
